In July, my friend found Mother Mae hiding in her garden, exhausted and pregnant at around 8.5 weeks. It was unclear how Mae got there, but we suspected that someone had abandoned her. Luckily, a vet check revealed that Mae was healthy. It was a sad reality that Mae was probably abandoned because her owner did not want new puppies.
Mae was scared in the shelter and found it difficult to sleep. Her belly was huge, and it was even quite hard for her to breathe. The vet predicted that Mae would give birth in the next 24 to 48 hours, so we stayed with her all the time to offer support. Mae’s story went viral on TikTok, and she received a lot of love and support.
The next day, Mae was still not in labor, but her mood had improved, and she even started playing. Finally, 32 hours after we got her, Mae gave birth to not eight but nine very healthy and adorable puppies. Mae initially struggled to produce enough milk for the puppies, but everything went smoothly after the first few hours.
We prepared everything for the puppies and took them for a vet check. They were all healthy and slept most of the time. Mama Mae was a great fighter for her nine puppies and never felt better than she did now. The puppies were a handful, and they loved to play. We had to teach them to play drums to keep them entertained. One by one, the puppies became better players, and Wink and Smol were particularly skilled.
Mae and her little puppies are now part of my family. Mae enjoys her free time, and her puppies have grown up so fast. We love them all and are delighted to have been able to give them a second chance at life.
