Meet Mia, the beautiful puppy born with a rare and unique condition that makes her stand out. Mia was born with five legs and two tails, a condition that is very rarely seen in dogs. Unfortunately, her owners were unable to care for her and had to surrender her to the Casas Cunas Animal Shelter.
The shelter immediately took Mia under their care and began looking for the best treatment options for her. At barely 2 months old, Mia has already suffered from other genetic disorders, including having two vaginas and two anuses. The shelter is currently raising funds to provide her with surgery, which will require more detailed x-rays and ultrasounds to determine the best course of action.
Mia’s litter mates were not affected by the same disorder, and all of the other puppies have been adopted. Mia’s case is similar to that of Skipper, a puppy treated in 2021 who was born with six legs, two tails, and two reproductive systems. Mia likely suffers from the same congenital birth deformity.
Mia is under constant veterinarian care, and her latest update seems optimistic. She needs two surgeries, the first of which is scheduled for tomorrow, as she has one more kidney and other complications. The shelter hopes that by sharing Mia’s story, animal advocates will help with the costs of her expected surgeries.
It is heartbreaking to see an innocent puppy go through so much, but Mia is a fighter, and with the help of animal advocates, she will have a chance at a long and happy life.
